Our Straight Bourbon Whiskey is formulated through purposefully sourcing the finest distillate, careful aging and exacting blending of the distinctive flavors of corn, rye, and malted barley.
For a whiskey to call itself bourbon, its mash, the mixture of grains from which the product is distilled, must contain at least 51% corn. (The rest of our mash is filled out with malted barley and rye.) The mash is distilled at 160 proof or less, and then aged in new charred American oak barrels at 125 proof or less.
As noted by drinkupny.com, “Smugglers’ Notch Bourbon has an exceptionally soft yet rich aroma for a high proof bourbon due to the care taken at all stages of its production.” The art and delight of creating fine blended bourbon inspires us as we create SND’s exceptional flavor profile. We carefully choose particular mash bills and blends and age them in our northern Vermont facility using various sized and constructed barrels from several cooperages around the country. Only after a rigorous blending and tasting process is our bourbon ready to be proofed with pure Vermont spring water.
At 90 proof, this bourbon is exceptionally smooth with an aroma of sweet corn and nutty rye. Palate entry is full-bodied and oaky; at mid-palate the taste profile turns delicate with light vanilla overtones. It finishes with notes of chocolate and caramel. Enjoy straight, or over ice!
